Art festivals for the art enthusiasts

South Australia, being the melting pot of all things art, in its many shapes and forms, brings some of the best Art Festivals in Australia to all art enthusiasts.

Illuminate Adelaide, July

One of the state’s newest festivals, Illuminate, is a winter celebration of “innovation, music, art, light and technology”. In its inaugural year, the festival brought phenomenal Van Gogh Alive experience to Adelaide. We also saw Rundle Mall lit up like a Sky Castle, experienced the vibrant Light Cycles display at the Adelaide Botanic Garden, and enjoyed the Airship Orchestra on the lawns of the South Australian Museum, just to name a few.

It’s been a truly enlightening experience (pun intended) and the City of Adelaide is looking forward to seeing it return in 2022.

South Australia Living Artists Festival (SALA), August

Have you heard of SALA? It’s the statewide festival celebrating all the incredible talented visual artists across South Australia – and there are many! Spanning the entire month of August, galleries, and venues all over the state host the artwork of more than 9,000 participating artists. You might spot artwork popping up in the café near your house, or a local gallery promoting a brand-new collaboration between artists… even walking tours. There are so many ways the festival helps to create opportunities for visual artists, and you can be a part of it!

OzAsia, October & November

Held over 3 weeks in the spring, OzAsia is a contemporary arts festival engaging with Asia. It showcases the best theatre, dance, music, visual arts, film, food, and cultural events from countries such as Japan, Korea, China, Cambodia, Denmark, India, Indonesia… the list goes on!

There is an impressive program of ticketed events, as well as free family fun such as the Lucky Dumpling Market and Moon Lantern Trail along the Riverbank.
